The Health Ministry has confirmed that they have discovered the emergence of two new COVID-19 clusters in Peninsular Malaysia.

According to a report by Malay Mail, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new clusters were detected in Perak and Putrajaya.

The Perak cluster originated from Kurau, said Dr Noor Hisham, and it has so far resulted in two positive cases.

“The first case in this cluster, the 9,050th COVID-19 case recorded, was reported on Friday (7 August) while the second case, the 9,082nd recorded, is the brother-in-law to the 9,050th case,” he said in a statement quoted by the news portal.

The second case was reportedly detected through contact tracing, and Dr Noor Hisham revealed that 115 people have so far been screened, of which 106 tested negative while nine others are awaiting the results.

As for the Meranti, Putrajaya cluster, it was detected when Case #9,083 turned up positive on Saturday (8 August).

Dr Noor Hisham said in the statement that the individual was linked to the Case #8,698 which was first reported on 31 July.

“After investigations, it was determined that the 8,968th case has a history of being treated in a health facility where the 9,083rd case worked at.

“Contact tracing and active case detection efforts are still ongoing for this cluster, with 15 people having been screened. The cluster’s source of infection is also being investigated,” he was further quoted as saying.
