Unfortunately, Malaysians working in Singapore are not spared from this dilemma either.
One sector most affected
According to a report by Malay Mail, Malaysian Human Resources Minister Seri M. Saravanan told the Dewan Negara that a total of 15,666 Malaysians have lost their jobs in Singapore between January to July of this year.The Malaysian High Commission in Singapore revealed that those working the service sector were affected the most, Saravanan said.
A total of 11,123 Malaysians in the services sector were affected, along with 3,604 workers in the manufacturing sector and 939 workers in the construction sector.
Those figures, Saravanan added, did not include Malaysians who have yet to return to Singapore since the Movement Control Order (MCO) took effect it March.
Since then, both countries have worked together to allow cross-border travels to enable Malaysians working in Singapore and vice versa to resume their livelihood.
