Malaysians in the Klang valley area have been hit with a string of water crisis throughout the year especially when the Sungai Semenyih plant was closed a few times within a short span of time a few months back. And it looks like we’re about to face another episode of water disruption.

In a statement released yesterday evening by National Water Services Commission (SPAN) chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Ridhuan Ismail, he confirmed that the water disruption will take place this Monday, December 19th in various areas of the Klang Valley. The disruption is due to maintenance works by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to install a protective arc system at the main entrance of the Bukit Badong substation in Hulu Selangor. The maintenance work is done once in every three years to prevent malfunctions or unscheduled electrical disruption at the plants.

The disruption is scheduled to take up about 16 hours and will start at 8am until midnight. It will affect 3,892,641 water users in the Klang Valley area such as Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. The disruption will also affect three main water facilities that supplies water to 60% of Klang Valley residents.

“The water supply is expected to be restored in stages after the system maintenance work on the electricity supply has been completed and the water treatment plants are operational once again,” Ridhuan told The Star.

He also urged all users to be prepared for the disruption and stock up enough water supply. You can also read our guide on how to survive a water crisis or disruption.
