Well, we don't mean to nitpick, but we have to point out that the rate at which Malaysians are being vaccinated is slower than expected.

With the government making the decision to stop administering vaccines at night during the whole Ramadan period, we have a feeling that the process will be delayed a little bit further.

Despite that, there's is a sliver of good news (if we can call it that, to be honest).

Talking numbers

The Ministry of Health has revealed that a total of 409,784 individuals in Malaysia have received the complete two doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the first phase of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP).

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba told Bernama that during the same period, a total of 609,153 individuals also received their first dose of the vaccine.

That brings the total number of doses administered to 1,018,937 to date, which is only three per cent of the entire population in Malaysia.

Slowly getting there.
In an infographic shared on Dr Adham’s official Twitter page, Selangor has the highest recipients of the first dose at 80,195, followed by Sarawak (63,539), Kuala Lumpur (57,152), Johor (56,663) and Sabah (54,309).

Selangor also has the greatest number of recipients who had completed both doses, with 54,820 individuals, followed by Perak (46,592), Sabah (41,948), Kuala Lumpur (34,683) and Pahang (32,688).

Phase One of the NIP involved frontliners, and Phase Two, which is scheduled to begin on 19 April, will be targetted at senior citizens and those at high risk.

Low registeration rate

In a report published by the New Straits Times on 2 April, only 7.6 million Malaysians have registered to receive the vaccination.

That number is way short of the 26.7 million target set by the Ministry of Health, according to Dr Adham Baba.

"The ministry sees this as a low figure, so we want to find out if the campaign is inefficient or people are afraid of taking it, or they lack information on how it works.

"The 7.6 million figure is not satisfactory and it is still low. Our target under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) is 70 per cent to 80 per cent," he was quoted as saying.

If you have yet to register, better do it soon, you guys.
