We're all for domestic tourism, especially when we hear the magic words: duty-free.

The most popular duty-free spot in Malaysia at the moment is none other than Langkawi. Local and international tourists flock to the island all-year long for cheap chocolates and alcohol.

Now, another popular local island on the West Coast will soon receive the same status. Beginning 1 January 2020, Pangkor Island will go tax-free.

According to the Malay Mail, the Perak state government had reportedly submitted an application to gazette the island as tax free.

You'll be surprised how clear the waters are along the West Coast.
"Various efforts to realise the status is underway. Efforts to assist locals in obtaining the spillover effort should also be one of the development agenda for Pangkor Island to ensure they are not left out," Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah said.

Besides that, the island will also be exempted from the Sales and Services Tax (SST).

Can't wait for 2020!
Many tourism industry players have also agreed that this would be a good idea to bring in businesses that sold products like chocolates, perfume and clothing.

So, more holiday shopping for us!
