An Indonesian football player has come under fire after reportedly insulting a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officer when he and his entourage were stopped for violating traffic laws.

A video that went viral online shows the footballer, identified as Adam Alis, and his companions being stopped by police after allegedly driving against the flow of traffic.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the officers requested identification documents and passports, which Adam and his group failed to provide. The police then reminded them of the requirement to carry passports at all times while in the country.

Adam later shared the experience in a social media video, claiming that the officer attempted to extort money from him and his entourage.

He further alleged that the officer began “behaving properly” after discovering that one of the group members was a member of the Indonesian National Armed Forces.

“When we told them we didn’t have our passports, they asked for our KTP (Indonesian ID card). When they realised one of us is in the army and another is a police officer, they started behaving ‘properly,’ but they had already asked us for extortion money,” he said in the video.
