Despite the no interstate travel ban, Malaysians are still finding ways to escape the roadblocks and travel back to their hometowns.

Well, this will be a thing in the past because the PDRM are cracking down hard on interstate travels.

No more free travel

No more sneaking back.
The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will be conducting stricter and tighter roadblocks every Friday to Sunday so that Malaysians will think twice about travelling interstate.

Inspector-general of police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador told Bernama that the police have noticed more people from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor are trying to cross into other states starting from Friday evening until Sunday.

IGP Abdul Hamid said although the current conditional movement control order (CMCO) allows interstate travels for those with a permit and a valid reason, the police have stopped a lot of those who attempt to sneak back without proper documentation.

"Why is it that the traffic increases every Friday? Emergencies only happen on Friday?

"Thus, I will take the step to tighten the roadblocks because Selangor is still under the conditional MCO. We’ll loosen the roadblocks if Selangor changes status to recovery MCO," he was quoted as saying.

Do not travel without written permission, OK?
IGP Hamid added that the police have decided to relax the roadblocks on urban roads, but he advised Malaysians to stay at home for a while longer.

“I understand the difficulty the rakyat is facing and I am sympathetic, but they need to know that what the police is doing is for the own good.

"For those who are sneaking out using flimsy excuses, even if allowed by police discretion, please don’t travel. The health ministry has time and again warned about interstate clusters in Kelantan and Johor that originated from Selangor," he told the news agency.

So, consider yourself warned, guys! Just stay put until we get the all clear, OK?
