Prime Minister Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced four main initiatives to help the rakyat during the COVID-19 period.

Here's a summary of the four initiatives.

Initiative 1:


Withdrawals allowed for Account 2

Malaysians will be able to use i-Lestari to withdraw money from their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) totalling RM40bil. Through this service, all EPF members aged 55 and below will be able to withdraw savings from their Account 2 capped at RM500 a month for the next 12 months.

Applications can be made starting 1 April 2020.

Initiative 2:

Additional allocations for the Ministry of Health (MOH)

The Government will allocate an additional RM500mil to the Ministry of Health (MOH) to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak. The allocation is meant to be used to buy medical equipment such as ventilators, ICU equipment and additional personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical staff as well as those working in the labs testing for COVID-19.

The Government also will allocate an additional RM100mil to the MOH to hire 2,000 new contract workers, especially nurses.

Initiative 3:

Allocations provided to each state.

An allocation of RM130 mil will be forwarded to the different states in the country to help them deal with the COVID-19 crisis.

The allocation can be used to assist:

Initiative 4:

More time to repay PTPTN loans

The Government will extend PTPTN loan repayments amounting to RM750mil from 3 months to 6 months.

The repayment extention will start today until 30 September 2020. This will benefit nearly 1.5 million Malaysians who have PTPTN loans.
