Police in Search of Woman Who Posed Nude in Front of Popular Sabah Maybank Photo Spot

Nowadays, people can get too carried away while trying to take the perfect photo for the ‘Gram. Earlier this year, a Chinese tourist tragically fell off a cliff at an Indonesian volcano while trying to get the right shot.

Over in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, a Maybank branch on Gaya Street has recently inexplicably turned into an Instagram landmark, leading to people taking their OOTDs there. The trend first began on Xiaohongshu, a popular Chinese social media platform, where tourists seemed to appreciate the modern design of the bank juxtaposed against the backdrop of the bustling street.

As reported by Malay Mail, a woman who also visited the spot for a photo has gone viral for all the wrong reasons, as she shockingly posed nude.

A 10-second clip shows the woman lifting her clothes and posing in front of the Maybank signboard, which was believed to have been posted on Xiaohongshu but is now making its rounds on WhatsApp.

The matter has now been escalated to the police, with Kota Kinabalu police chief assistant commissioner Kasim Muda saying that they have opened investigation papers on the video and would look at finding the culprit committing the obscene act.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for obscene acts, which provides for a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine, or both if convicted.

“We will have to ask for help from the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission to look into the background of the clip and the person who posted it,” Kasim Muda said.

He also elaborated that the police would try to trace the source of the video. If investigations find that the culprit is a foreigner, action will extend to being barred from leaving or entering the country again.
