With Malaysia being placed under a total lockdown for two weeks, many fear that the roadblocks set up by the authorities will prevent them from going to work.

Well, you don't have to worry about that anymore.

Any letter also can

On Wednesday (2 June), PDRM announced that they will accept letters from any ministry or relevant departments for work-related travel, Free Malaysia Today reported.

This was confirmed by Bukit Aman's internal security and public order department (operations) chief MV Srikumar.

Srikumar said in a 30-second video sighted by the news portal that the directive came from the Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

"Please inform those who are conducting roadblocks," he said in the video.

Remember to get the approval letter from your company as well.
Srikumar told FMT that the police would be giving leeway "over the next two or three days" as some companies have yet to get the updated approval letters from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) yet.

However, that doesn't mean that you can go out and drive around though, because Srikumar stressed that you would still need approval letters from the relevant ministries.

Not all companies get approval

On Tuesday (1 June), MITI revealed that 95,142 companies have obtained approval to operate during the current movement control order (MCO), which will last until 14 June.

The Ministry told Malay Mail that an estimated 1.2 million workers from these companies will be travelling to their work place daily.

According to MITI, the approved companies make up about 20 per cent of the total number of firms registered with MITI, which is 517,144 companies with a total workforce of 9.67 million.

With more than eight million Malaysians staying home, let's pray that this will help break the chain once and for all.

Unless, of course, some Malaysians decide to start misusing their travel documents again, then we're back to square one.
