A Kedah-based politician who went to Sabah to help campaign for the recent Sabah election may have infected his wife with COVID-19.

But that's not the worst part folks.

The wife is a teacher, and because she tested positive, about 600 students from the school she teaches at - Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Permatang Janggus, Penaga - had to take swab tests for COVID-19 as well.

Haih....

Temporary closure

The State Education Department has since also ordered for the school to temporarily close in order to control the outbreak.

"The school will be closed for eight days and any further decision will be made after we hold a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Health.

"The department has yet to get a complete report from SK Permatang Janggus for now but all students have been told to undergo COVID-19 tests today," he said as reported by Berita Harian.

The report also said that parents were in a state of panic as they were informed of the matter via WhatApp and were now anxiously waiting for their children to complete the swab tests.

Why take the risk?

While it sometimes cannot be avoided, we just don't understand the need for politicians from Semenangjung Malaysia to campaign in Sabah.

Can't the local leaders deal with it?

There's a pandemic happening and COVID-19 cases were on the rise in Sabah!

Only those who absolutely needed to be there should have been there on the ground.

Voting admidst a pandemic.

The government has repeatedly called for us to take all necessary precautions, but sometimes it really does seem like they're refusing to practise what they preach.

Meanwhile, we hope none of the kids test positive.
