She may just be a volunteer at Bukit Jalil National Stadium vaccination centre (PPV) but that does not hinder her from doing her best especially when dealing with foreign workers.

Ain Syawani has taken the effort to learn the native languages of foreign workers for better communication with them.

The 23-year-old has learnt Bengali, Urdu, Burmese, Hindi and Nepalese.

According to a report in Mothership, Singapore, her skills were showcased in two videos that she posted on Twitter, much to the delight of netizens.

She said her efforts paid off when foreign workers were pleasantly surprised to see her using their language.

Kindness costs nothing

Ain said that one of the reasons that prompted her to pursue foreign languages was when she witnessed some other volunteers "talking rudely" to foreign workers.

She said while the language barrier may make it difficult for the volunteers to communicate with foreign workers, the need to understand them is also essential as some waited more than three hours to receive their vaccination.

She added that she once saw a Bangladeshi worker who was trembling, and told her he was afraid of "being scolded again".

"I took the initiative to learn (the languages) because it makes my job so much easier! I wish I could show you their faces the moment I talked to them in their language," Ain tweeted.

Netizens couldn’t stop showering praises on Ain’s efforts.

Her tweet also prompted others to share their own experiences speaking in languages they are not very familiar with at PPVs.

Good job, Ain and everyone else spreading kindness!
