Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah was awarded the 2020 Medal of Service by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), the highest form of recognition by the organisation for the Queen's contributions both locally and internationally.

The Queen is the President of the Girl Guides Association of Pahang as well as Deputy President of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia.

Recognition given to those who have contributed to the society

The announcement of the award was made by WAGGGS World Board chair Ana Maria Mideros on YouTube on 16 July 2020.



In the video, Ana maria commented on Her Majesty's involvement in the Girl Scout both locally and internationally, besides being the Royal Patron of the Friends of Asia Pacific WAGGGS (FAPW) with members from 27 countries in the Asia Pacific region.

“Her Majesty is determined to develop the potential of young girls and women to the international arena through girl guiding,“ she said.

The Queen was touched by the gesture

In a video shared on Astro Awani, the Queen was seen to be smiling and close to tears as she watched the announcement of the awards.

According to a report on Astro Awani, the award was given to Tunku Azizah for her role in empowering and supporting individuals as well as the community through Yayasan Fertiliti Tunku Azizah.

Besides that, the Queen also spearheaded a sewing club in Kuantan to help empower women economically and is a part of other community empowerment projects.
