Real Or Not? No Haze Expected In Malaysia This Year, Says Govt

This is not something we expect to hear, but hey, life is full of surprises.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said in a statement cited by The Rakyat Post that Malaysians can expect a haze-free year in 2017.

According to Wan Junaidi, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) came to that conclusion after observing the weather indications as well as wind patterns.

Plus, the government’s stern crackdown on open burning will ensure that there will be no transboundary haze this year, added Wan Junaidi.

“MetMalaysia also reported that no abnormal weather will occur (this year), unlike in 2014 and 2015, which was seen to be among the factors that had caused the acute haze,” Wan Junaidi said in the statement cited by the news portal.

Oh, and here’s an added bonus: MetMalaysia’s report also revealed that the El Nino and La Nina phenomenon will not occur in Malaysia this year, as the state of the Indian Ocean is expected to remain neutral till the end of the year.
