If you live in Subang Jaya or have been there recently, you may have noticed some changes on signboards and such.

The municipal council have been slowly changing its name on Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) to Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBPJ), and on 20 October, the township officially became a city.

A new status comes with a new head

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, on his Twitter, shared the news of Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah declaring Subang Jaya as a city.

Amirudin also announced that Hajah Noraini Roslan has been appointed as the city's mayor. She was previously the president of MPSJ.

In his statement, Amirudin said that he hoped with the change in status, the sustainable development of Subang Jaya and surrounding areas will be enhanced through world-class system.

Netizens more concerned about having running water

Despite the joyous occassion, netizens replying to the Menteri Besar's tweets don't seem impressed with Subang Jaya's new status.

Most are understandably more concerned about the never ending water issues in Selangor, including the new city:

The angry netizens sure have a point. What's the point of fancy names and status if even the basic necessities aren't met?

Let's hope the new city status brings some kind of betterment for the people.
