You've comfortably plonked yourself on your couch for a short afternoon snooze.

You turn on your phone to set an alarm, and you realise that your battery is dying.

Grrrrrrr

Imagine that instead of getting up from that comfy chair to charge your phone, you could just set your phone down and it would walk itself to the charging pad and recharge!

Sounds like a lazy person's dream or part of some sci-fi movie but walking phone covers could be the norm in a couple of years.

Covers with robot legs

According to Gizmodo.com, researchers have actually come up with a smartphone case that has tiny retractable robot legs.

The legs allow the phone to crawl to a wireless charging station whenever it's set down.

The invention is called CaseCrawler, and it is the brainchild of robotic researchers from the Biorobotics Laboratory at the Seoul National University.

The robot legs will add a bit of bulk to your smartphone but it's actually not that bad lah - just an additional 16 millimeters.

The current prototype can carry 13 times its own weight or an impressive 300 grams.

The report detailed that the invention could also pave the way for more breakthroughs in the future, perhaps even a phone that could walk or crawl to you when called.

Now THAT would most definitely be useful, not to mention, freaking cool!
