Remember the million of ringgit worth of money and assets that were seized from Pavilion Residence in 2018 in relation to the 1MDB scandal?

Well, all the assets have been returned to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and UMNO.

The Vibes reported that this was following the decision by the prosecution not to appeal the decision of the High Court which struck out a purported money trail affidavit filed by the prosecutors in relation to 1MDB case.

The assets were returned in June

According to the report, the assets were returned on 17 June 2021, after judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin allowed Najib's lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and UMNO's counsel Datuk Hariharan Tara Singh to strike out the affidavit.

The judge ruled that the affidavit was filed during the submission stage and will cause prejudice to Najib and UMNO.

"It was filed after all of the other affidavits were filed and without leave of the court.

"Accordingly, I rule that the affidavit cannot be used and I will not consider the affidavit in support. Shafee may continue with the submission," he reportedly said.

The assets returned included 11,991 units of jewelry, 401 watches and 16 such accessories, 234 pairs of eyewear and 306 handbags, as well as cash in different currencies and denominations.

The report further stated that the affidavit in question was important to the 1MDB case.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens next in the 1MDB saga. Will Najib walk free just like several other politicians charged with corruption and other charges have?
