There's a good reason why people say that you shouldn't be someone you're not. A man from Singapore learned that the hard way.

As it is, the man was already in enough trouble, but little did he know that posing as his brother would bring him more trouble.

He should never be allowed to drive again

According to a report in Mashable SEA, Jason Chia Junjie was involved in two unrelated accidents in 2008 and 2014 respectively.

In the 2018 incident, the 40-year-old was fined US$5,000 (RM21,162) and slapped with a five-year driving ban for killing a motorist in a road accident.

The ban came to an end in 2013 and he started driving again soon after, despite not getting a new driver’s license.

In 2014, he hit a man who was crossing the road who died from his head injuries. Following that, he was sentenced to 10 months in jail in 2016 and slapped with yet another driving ban for ten years!

That means, he should not be driving until 2026. Chia, however, was caught driving in 2020.

Backfired!

When police asked him, he attempted to get out of trouble by pretending to be his younger brother and provided the police with his brother’s particulars.

Little did he know at that time that his brother was a wanted man for an unknown case.

"The screening of the particulars showed that (the brother) was wanted by the police.

"The accused was placed under arrest and brought into the police car,” Deputy Public Prosecutor Emily Koh was quoted as saying.

Chia was then sentenced to nine weeks in jail and banned from driving for the next 20 years!
