Sarawak School Goes Viral for Creatively Using Balloons Instead of Firecrackers to Celebrate CNY
Firecrackers are typically lit to celebrate the Chinese New Year. This custom symbolises good luck and wards off evil spirits.
One school in Sarawak had recently garnered the public's attention during their recent Chinese New Year celebration. Instead of using typical firecrackers, this school chose a more environmentally friendly way to welcome the new year by using balloons.
This unique celebration happened at SMK Sungai Maong, Kuching. As of this article, the video of the creative celebration has gained over 3.2 million views.

The short video showcased how the multi-coloured balloons had been carefully stacked and secured on the second floor of the school's building.
A group of teachers dressed in red then pulled a rope attached to a tall pole which was also creatively decorated with a snake's head to mark the Year of the Snake.
The public were impressed
In the comment section, many social media users praised the school for their creative and environmentally friendly approach to celebrating the upcoming festival.

“If we do this at night, it won't be too loud. Even the neighbours will be confused as to why they hear the sound of firecrackers, but there's no smoke,” said a netizen.
