Unless you have been living under a rock (which is good; continue staying at home), you would've noticed that the number of daily COVID-19 cases are on the rise again.

As of Tuesday (28 July), Malaysia recorded 39 positive cases, pushing the total active COVID-19 cases to 212.

The government has also threatened to reimpose the Movement Control Order (MCO) if things do not improve.

And judging by the look of things in East Malaysia, we may be spending a lot more time at home again.

Worrying trend

Malay Mail reported that Kuching has now officially been classified as a COVID-19 red zone following a spike in cases.

State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas told the news portal that a total of 16 new cases were reported on Tuesday (28 July).

That pushed the total number of active cases in the district to 52 in the last two weeks.

And it wasn't just Kuching that's suffering from a spike in cases: the Bau, Lundu, Serian and Samarahan districts have unfortunately been upgraded from green to yellow.

However, Amar said that 35 other districts in Sarawak are still categorised as green zones.

Stay safe, Kuching.
To prevent the spread and rise of COVID-19 cases, the state of Sarawak has now implemented several drastic measures.

This include limiting business operating hours in yellow and red zones to between 6am and 10pm (from 1 August onwards), mandatory Real-Time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test for non-Malaysians and a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Stay safe, our brothers and sisters in Sarawak. Let's hope we can find a way to flatten the curve once again.
