A mamak restaurant in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, went viral after a video showed one of its staff allegedly washing leftover food to be re‑cooked and sold the following day.
In the video, the worker is seen at a sink, believed to be washing leftover food before placing it on a metal tray.
Following the viral video, the restaurant has since been ordered to close, and compounds have been issued.
The restaurant, whose name was not disclosed, was ordered to shut for 14 days until 17 February under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
Additionally, the owner of the premises was issued a compound for compromising food safety under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.

“We carried out an investigation immediately after a clip of a worker washing unsold food containing meat such as chicken, mutton and bean curd went viral on Tuesday (3 February).
“We take matters of food hygiene and safety very seriously and remind all food business owners, managers and operators to ensure every aspect of food safety is maintained,” the statement read.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the Seremban City Council (MBS) also issued three additional compounds to the owner, amounting to RM750, for operating without the council’s permission, advertising without approval, and poor hygiene practices, including failure to maintain toilet cleaning schedules.
