Smaller Train Stations And Capacity For LRT3 To Help Reduce Cost

Firstly, some stations that were initially in the lineup will be suspended.

The affected locations are Lien Hoe, Temasya, Persiaran Hishamuddin, SIRIM, Bukit Raja and Bandar Botanic.

According to Bernama, these stations were reportedly taken out because a forecast study revealed that the ridership in 2020 would be below 1,500 passengers per day.

However, should there be an increase in demand by then, more stations will be added.

Besides that, the Transport Ministry has also decided to reduce the size of the stations and train capacity for LRT3.

This decision came after revising the specifications that were previously submitted by Prasarana Malaysia.

The revision reportedly found that 22 sets of three-car trains were more than enough to accommodate the current demand.

"During peak periods, the maximum number of passengers per hour per direction (pphpd) forecasted is 6,185 for 2034. This amount can be accommodated by 22 sets of three-car trains which can carry 6,210 pphpd," the ministry said in a statement.

"In addition, to increase the capability to accommodate passengers after 2050, additional three-car train sets could be purchased, while the LRT stations can also accommodate four-car train sets."

In terms of redesigning the stations and reviewing the size, the process would be based on the existing Kelana Jaya LRT line.

In return, this entire revision of the LRT3 project reduces 47 per cent or RM15bil from the original cost of RM31.6bil.
