Thai Army Officer Allegedly Attempts to Open Exit Door During KL-Bangkok Flight, Gets Tied to Seat

Passengers on board a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok were left shaken after a Thai man became agitated mid-flight and began shouting demands for the aircraft to land.

He also allegedly attempted to open an exit door while the plane was cruising at an altitude of 32,000 feet.

In a dramatic video recorded by another passenger, the man, dressed in a light beige shirt, was seen shouting in English, repeatedly saying, "Everybody needs to go." He was also heard speaking incoherently in Thai.

Two male flight attendants were later seen attempting to restrain him as he continued shouting. The disruptive passenger was eventually secured to his seat using cable ties.

The airline and flight number involved were not disclosed.

He was reportedly experiencing a mental health episode during the flight

According to a Bangkok Post report, the man was later identified as a lieutenant in the Royal Thai Army. A spokesperson for Thailand's Defence Ministry confirmed that he worked in the ministry's Office of Policy and Planning.

In a statement, the ministry said the lieutenant had been undergoing treatment for a mental health condition and is believed to have suffered a relapse during the flight.

Upon landing in Bangkok, he was immediately taken to Phramongkutklao Hospital for further treatment.

The ministry also said it would provide the officer with appropriate medical care and support while reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
