Last week, the Ministry of Health assured us that the Teratai Cluster stemming from workers at the Top Glove factory in Klang has not entered the community.

Unfortunately, controlling a virus like COVID-19 is no easy task.

Rising infection rates.

Yesterday (2 December), health director-general Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah confirmed that the cluster has spread to a second generation and 152 individuals in the community have been infected.

"As of today, it is estimated that 152 COVID-19 new cases have been reported at the community level and outside of the area, currently placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), covering Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

"There are 164 workers who are locals and they are staying at their respective homes, so when there is an infection, their family members are at risk," said Noor Hisham as reported by New Straits Times.

Second generation discovered

Family members infected.

Noor Hisham said that MOH officials have discovered a second-generation infection which involves family members of the workers.

Following this, COVID-19 screenings using rapid test kits have been done on residents in Meru, Klang and Noor Hisham hoped that this would curb the spread of infection.

As of date, about 6,609 people have been screened at the area where the Top Glove worker dormitories are located.

A total of 5,083 infections have been detected with no deaths reported so far.

We hope that the infection is contained soon.
