Unless you've been living under a huge rock, you would've probably read about Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces are currently defending their homeland from Russian forces as their country is being invaded, and the Ukrainians are not going down without a fight.

Some soldiers even defended their country till their very last breath.

'Go f**k yourself'

An audio exchange between Ukrainian border guards guarding Zmiinyi Island (or Snake Island) in the Black Sea against a Russian warship has made its way online.

The 48-second audio clip was published by Ukrainian news outlet Ukrayinska Pravda on Friday (25 February).

In the exchange, the border guards can be heard telling the Russian warship to "go f**k yourself" before it opened fire on the island.

According to CNN, a Russian officer can be heard saying: "This is a military warship. This is a Russian military warship. I suggest you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and needless casualties. Otherwise, you will be bombed."

An Ukrainian soldier allegedly responded: "Russian warship, go f**k yourself".

Guards killed

Reuters reported that at the time of the exchange, there were 13 border guards stationed on the island.

Sadly, all 13 guards were killed, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a press statement.

"All border guards died heroically but did not give up. They will be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously," he said in a statement quoted by the news agency.

Alejandro Alvarez, the editor of WTOP News, later tweeted a purported extended version of the audio which suggested that the border guards knew their time was up.

The audio clip allegedly featured the soldiers talking among themselves, saying "this is it" and discussing "should I tell him to go f**k himself" before turning up the volume and relaying the message.

A screen-recorded footage of a livestream video allegedly taken by one of the Ukrainian soldiers purportedly showing the moment the Russian warship opened fire on the island also made its way online.

However, the authenticity of the video has not been confirmed.

Rest in peace, brave soldiers. We hope that the war comes to an end soon.
