University Malaya has climbed 11 places and secured the 59th spot in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS-WUR).

The 2021 edition of the QS-WUR highlights the top 1000 universities in the world.

According to a report by New Straits Times, UM showed improvements across four of the six metrics used to determine the rankings.

Three other local universities also made it into the world's top 150 and they include Universiti Putra Malaysia ranked at 132, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia at 141 and Universiti Sains Malaysia at 142.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia also rose 30 placed ranking at 187.

The reighning champions​

In first place again.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was named the world's best university again this year.

MIT has held the record for nine consecutive years now.

Ranking at second and third place is Stanford University and Harvard University.
