Ever since the beginning of time, we humans have been trying to answer the question: do aliens exist?

While we have seen the occasional video evidence of flying saucers, we have yet to get a definitive answer to that question.

But now, three recently-released videos of potential UFO sightings may give us an answer after all.

The truth is finally out there?

Is that a real UFO?
On Tuesday (28 April), the Pentagon -- the headquarters building of the United States Department of Defense, in case you're not familiar -- released three declassified videos of "unexplained aerial phenomena" said to be recorded by US Navy fighter jet pilots.

According to the Pentagon statement, they've decided to release the videos after a "thorough review found that they do not impinge on any subsequent investigations of [these types of] military air space incursions".

Pilots can be heard interacting with the object.
This release, Pentagon said, is meant to "clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos".

Pentagon further revealed that the videos were taken in November 2004 and January 2015.

Clips went viral before this

Despite the Pentagon releasing the videos only this week, all three video clips have actually been circulating on the web since 2007.

The clips were discovered by UFO research organisation To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science founded by former Blink-182 vocalist Tom DeLonge, and they leaked online in 2017 and 2018.

The video taken in November 2004 features no audio but just the visual of an oblong-shaped object being chased by one of the fighter jets before it turned and accelerated sharply out of view.

The two pilots who witnessed the incident told The New York Times in an interview back in 2017 that the object was around 12-metres long and floating around 50 feet above the water before it rapidly accelerating away from them "like nothing I’ve ever seen".

One of the pilots, David Fravor, told CNN in another interview that the object's movement was erratic and extremely abrupt "like a ping pong ball, bouncing off a wall".

"As I got close to it ... it rapidly accelerated to the south, and disappeared in less than two seconds," Fravor told the news site.

The other two videos that were taken in January 2015, meanwhile, are a little bit more interesting - because they feature voices of the pilots reacting to the object.

In the videos, one can clearly hear the confusion in the pilots' voices, with one of them exclaiming: "Wow, what is that, man? Look at it fly!"

The unidentified aircraft can be seen rotating unusually against the direction of the wind and flying quickly over a bed of water.

After the clips were released by Pentagon, a former US politician Harry Reid tweeted that the clips "only scratches the surface of research and materials available".

Cue the 'The X-Files' theme song, you guys.
