You may think that Malaysia is only home to Malaysians, but you’d be surprised to know that many foreigners consider our country as home too.

One such person is Leon J. Muffett.

The American citizen used to live in Malaysia when he was teaching at SMK Air Hitam, Kedah in the 1970s.

While he currently teaches at a preschool in the USA, he still has a strong connection to Malaysia.

Leon recently shared a video of himself speaking in Bahasa Malaysia to lift the spirits of Malaysians who are forced to stay home because of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

“Good evening to all my friends in Malaysia and welcome to my home in Ridgefield, Washington."

“During this time, when the world is filled with difficulties and problems my purpose is to try and lift your spirits and courage."

“Actually, I consider myself an adopted child of Malaysia. A country that is beautiful and peaceful, safe and sound. My country too,” said Muffett in the video, as reported by Malay Mail.

He stood up and sang Negaraku as well

Muffett even went the extra mile and sang the "Negaraku", impressing his viewers who showered praises of his effort.

Standing and full of respect.
He later said that he initially made the video to share with his former students from SMK Air Hitam and was amazed by the “flood” of love he has been shown by Malaysians since.

He also included an explanation for his English-speaking viewers about his Malay video.

“I have no idea how to say this. I’m out of thoughts and have lost my voice—there are no words to describe it."

“This kerbau balar lubuk pinang (white buffalo), a nickname given to me by some of my former students and I call myself too, is full of gratitude."

“I’m so touched by the outpouring love thousands have shown me since I uploaded the video. My students are like family to me. I love them like they are my own. All I can say is thank you for your love,” he said.

He also reminded Malaysians to stay at home and stay safe.

Awwwwwww... so sweet.
