Whenever Ramadan comes along, every Malaysian regardless of religion and race gets excited about one thing; Bazar Ramadans.

Culturally, Bazar Ramadans have been a mainstay in the celebration of Ramadan in Malaysia. These bazaars are where most Malaysians were first introduced to dishes like Roti John and kuih pelita.

But one Bazar Ramadan stands out among hundreds of them for both good and bad reasons - depending on how you view it. Taman Tun Dr Ismail, or TTDI for short, is home to one of the most iconic bazaars around; also nicknamed ‘Bazar Kayangan’.

‘Kayangan’ is a Malaysian term for ‘expensive’ or ‘upper class’. In this case, it is because of the elaborate and innovative menus the bazaar has to offer. From macaroni and cheese to ribs lined up like satay, the bazaar always comes up with surprises every year.

Last week, our editor visited the bazaar and bought a number of items. His purchase includes the recently-viral macaroni and cheese, the mouth-watering Nasi Goreng Wagyu, kuih pelita, sotong bakar and murtabak.

According to him, the Mac & Cheese was splendid as the brisket chunks added an extra kick to the dish but the biggest surprise was the Nasi Goreng Wagyu. The juiciness of the wagyu enriched the fried rice, giving the dish a fresh take (though it does have the same vibe with the steak ramdon from Parasite).

But guess what's the damage?
