Can't stand the insane heat wave these days? Good, because we now know who we should blame for the weather.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department told The New Straits Times that the current hot spell can be attributed to Typhoon Lan, which made landfall in Japan earlier this week.The scorching heat is part of the side effect of the typhoon, which also caused severe storms in several districts in Sabah.
The typhoon -- which reached a the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane with winds of up to 255km/h -- also reportedly caused thunderstorms to hit several parts of Peninsula Malaysia on Monday.
(Definitely not near our office lah, because it was hot AF yesterday!)
According to the Met Department, the current weather situation is considered "normal" during the monsoon transition period which the country is currently facing.
Meanwhile, Department director-general Alui Bahari told Utusan Malaysia in a seperate report that the hot weather is only temporary. Phew!
The Department predicts that the hot weather will subside once the typhoon clears up as early as the end of the week.
Also, Alui has denied reports that the temperature will reach 40 degrees Celsius later this week.
“The sun is also not on the Equator line now. Based on the current monitoring, thunderstorms in the afternoon have taken place in several parts of the peninsula following the weakening of Typhoon Lan,” he was quoted by Free Malaysia Today as saying.
So for now, we recommend that you don't break out your new bathing suit just yet.
