No truth to the rumours
On Sunday (2 May), the government has come out to clarify whether there will be an MCO 3.0 next week.Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob told news portal Malay Mail that there are no plans to reintroduce the MCO yet.
Ismail Sabri said a news report that has since gone viral on social media was fake news, explaining that the National Security Council (NSC) has yet to sit down and discuss the matter.
“There has not even been a meeting yet,” he was quoted by The Vibes as saying.
The speculation started when a local English daily quoted several sources as saying that a two-week MCO dubbed “MCO 3.0” would be reimposed in states with high number of cases such as Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor and Sarawak beginning 3 May.
This came after Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said on Saturday (1 May) that the MCO rules will be reviewed following a recent spike in COVID-19 cases.
To be honest, an MCO 3.0 might not be such a bad thing, considering the state the country is in right now.
