After spending almost an eternity under the hot sun, we are finally experiencing some cold weather.

And the good news is, it's going to last a while more.

It's monsoon time!

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has revealed that the country has transitioned into the Southwest monsoon season.

The Southwest monsoon typically brings more rainfall, hence the cooler temperature, The Star Online reported.

The Klang Valley has recorded a daily average temperature as low as 24℃ in the past weeks due to the rainfall - once dipping to 23°C last Thursday (19 August)!

The highest temperature recorded in the Klang Valley during that period was 'only' 32℃, MetMalaysia said.

Cold breeze, we like!
"Observations of total rainfall distribution from the main meteorological stations until Sunday (Aug 22) found that most stations in Peninsular Malaysia showed normal readings except for some stations in the peninsula's northern area which recorded above-average rainfall distribution.

"Meanwhile, in Sabah and Sarawak, most stations recorded normal readings except in western Sabah which includes Labuan and northern and inland Sarawak, which recorded above average rainfall,” the department said.

And here's the piece of information we Malaysians would definitely love: the cold weather is expected to last until the second or third week of September.

Nice!

Squall line phenomenon

In addition to the Southwest monsoon, MetMalaysia has also revealed that the country is experiencing a "squall line phenomenon" - a natural occurence where a group of storms arranged in a line, accompanied by heavy rain and lightning.

As a result, heavy rain can be expected in several parts of the country.

"The phenomenon brings heavy rain and strong winds with lightning in the early morning, and has a high potential to occur during the south-west monsoon, especially on the west coast of the peninsula and west of Sabah," MetMalaysia added.

While it is indeed fun to enjoy the cooler temperature for now, remember to stay safe out there, OK?
