TLDR
- A woman has alleged that fried chicken she purchased from D’Apple Fried Chicken (DAFC) at Kota Bharu Airport contained maggots and had a ‘slimy’ texture.
- DAFC has denied the allegation, explaining that the objects identified as maggots were actually sesame seeds used in their Korean Wings menu, while the ‘slimy’ texture was due to the thick and sticky Korean sauce.
- The company has conducted an internal investigation, contacted the customer for clarification, and filed a police report. It also welcomes inspections by relevant authorities to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety standards.
Imagine looking forward to a meal only to discover something that instantly destroys your appetite. That is exactly what happened to one woman, who alleged that the fried chicken she bought from a local fast food outlet was infested with maggots.
In a post on Threads, the woman said she had purchased the fried chicken from D’Apple Fried Chicken (DAFC)’s Kota Bharu Airport outlet. In the caption, she alleged that the chicken was infested with maggots and had a ‘slimy’ texture.
Needless to say, the post quickly garnered attention from other social media users, who urged the woman to report the issue to the authorities.
“It’s sesame seeds, not maggots”
Following the viral post, DAFC has since issued an official statement denying the allegations.
According to the company, after receiving the complaint, it conducted an internal investigation involving a review of the product, relevant footage, and operational procedures at the outlet, and found no breach of standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the transaction.

“After reviewing the case, we have found that the object claimed to be maggots has characteristics consistent with sesame seeds, which are indeed used as part of the DAFC Korean Wings menu ingredients,” the statement reads.
Additionally, the company clarified that the ‘slimy’ texture on the chicken was actually the Korean sauce used for the dish.
“The Korean sauce naturally has a thick and sticky texture, which is one of the characteristics of the product.”
DAFC also stated that it had attempted to resolve the matter amicably and professionally, including contacting the complainant directly to obtain further clarification and reach a resolution.
The company added that it welcomes any government agency, authority, or relevant body to conduct inspections and assessments at its premises at any time to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety standards.
“However, as the allegations involve food safety issues and have affected the company’s reputation, this matter has been referred to our legal advisors, and further action will be taken through appropriate channels. A police report has also been filed for record and further investigation,” they added.
