British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is launching an online “master class” course that promises to take up-and-coming home chefs to the next level! In a departure from his mercurial “shouty” and “short-tempered” self, a softer, calmer Ramsay will guide these keen culinary students on how to chop like a chef, sauté like a chef and flambé like a chef in the new online cooking series.

Shot at Ramsay’s home, the online course comprises of 15 video lessons spread out over four hours and costs US$90 (RM396). “You’ll see a side of me across this class that I don’t think has ever been shown before,” Ramsay says in a promotional video.

Adam Bricker, who has worked on Chef’s Table, is the director of photography, so the lessons are likely to be a bit more visually fascinating than the typical stand-and-stir format. This isn’t Ramsay’s only video project at the moment. He is also working on a series called The F Word for Fox, which will premiere next year.

Ramsay shares his knowledge and tips on basic knife skills (for instance three fingers down, knuckles in place) and how to prevent salmon filets from curling up (score the salmon skin first). Everything he has learnt, understood, lifted and perfected is laid bare across this master class according to Ramsay. It’s the latest undertaking for the renowned busy chef, whose restaurant kingdom includes 30 restaurants around the world – from Europe, the US to even the Middle East.

In total, Ramsay holds a total of six Michelin stars. As a TV personality, he is best known for his red-faced, foul-mouthed and hot-tempered self and a host for food shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Hotel Hell. He also hosts MasterChef, MasterChef Jr and Kitchen Nightmares.

Masterclass with Gordon Ramsay is expected to launch in 2017. Home cooks who may not want to fork over US$90 (RM396) can still learn Ramsay’s professional cooking tricks and tips online. Just search YouTube videos where he shares some rudimentary recipes and cooking guidelines.

The online course is in collaboration with San Francisco-based outfit Masterclass, which also offers screenwriting courses taught by Aaron Sorkin, singing classes by the one and only Christina Aguilera, the art of performance with Usher and acting lessons with Kevin Spacey.
