The customer, believed to be a foreign national from China, then proceeded to pour a cup of coffee on the counter, spilling it onto the employee's hands.
In retaliation, the ZUS Coffee employee tossed an empty plastic cup over the counter after the customer began yelling vulgarities and threw a cup directly at the employee.

Following the viral video, the coffee chain issued a formal statement saying an investigation has been launched. They also emphasised that the brand does not tolerate any form of disrespect towards its staff.

In the comments section of the post shared on Facebook, ZUS Coffee clarified that the staff involved was not terminated, as speculated, but is simply recovering from the incident.
“We've seen a few posts saying that our Zurista involved in the recent incident has been terminated. That is not true. We hope everyone can give her the space and understanding she needs while recovering from this incident."
They added, "Please refrain from encouraging aggressive behaviour and spreading misinformation. Let's be kind to one another, online and offline.”
Additionally, the brand asked the public to refrain from sharing or reposting any video showing the identity of the staff involved without consent, in order to respect her privacy.
