It is the ultimate party food — one where you can share with your family and friends — and you can practically have it for breakfast (hey, don’t judge!), lunch, dinner and even supper.

Here at Rojak Daily, we are massive fans of pizza parties, so when Pizza Hut called one day and asked if we wanted to try out their new pizza, of course we jumped at the chance.

And boy, let us tell you; it’s definitely one of the most interesting pizzas we’ve ever had.

The lowdown

The new pizza we’re talking about is none other than the Cheesy Poppers Pizza.

It looks exactly like your normal pizza - except that Pizza Hut replaced the crust with 18 poppers filled with cheese!

Yup, you heard that right: cheese-filled poppers that you can tear out and pop into your mouth! How sinful does that sound?

This limited edition pizza also uses two types of cheese, mozzarella and cheddar, so all you cheese lovers out there have a reason to rejoice.

The Cheesy Poppers Pizza is topped with a generous amount of crispy pepperoni and chicken meatballs, finished off with a special smokey tomato BBQ sauce.

If that description is enough to make your stomach growl, wait till you pop a slice into your mouth.

To celebrate the launch of the Cheesy Poppers Pizza, Pizza Hut also launched the #PHPullDipPop campaign, a TikTok dance created by the brand to have social distancing ‘pizza parties’ with their fellow friends and families.

We can definitely get behind that.

How does it taste?

If we were to describe the pizza in one word, it would be this: interesting.

Let’s start with the topping first: if you like your pizza with lots and lots of meat in them, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth with the Cheesy Poppers Pizza.

True to their word, the pepperoni slices were crispy, like how pepperoni slices should be.

The star of the toppings is not the pepperoni slices, by the way, because that ‘award’ belongs to the chicken meatballs.

We weren’t expecting oven-baked meatballs, especially on a pizza, to taste decent, but Pizza Hut somehow managed to make it work.

It was not too dry, and it has a certain bounce to the bite and most surprisingly, it’s really yummy.

We feel that Pizza Hut should package ‘em meatballs and sell them over the counter, and we would gladly throw money at them.

Now, on to the sauce.

We have a love-hate relationship with pizza sauces, because this writer doesn’t like his pizza sauces too tomato-ey.

We wouldn’t say that the Cheesy Poppers Pizza has the best pizza sauce ever, but the smokey BBQ flavour does give the pizza a very distinct taste.

That’s because the toppings tie in really well with the BBQ sauce, and it had us licking the sauce off our fingers after every slice.

(PSA: please do not lick other people’s fingers because, well, COVID-19)

The smokey BBQ flavour masks the taste of the tomato base, which is good news for people who don’t like their pizzas with a strong tomato base.

To top it all off, the cheddar and mozzarella cheese sauce drizzled all over the pizza is just ‘mwah’ *chef’s kiss*.

When you take a bite, we felt this burst of flavours in our mouth, and somehow it just works. We loved it.

Now that we’ve covered the toppings and the sauce, let’s talk about the one thing you all came here to find out more about: the cheesy poppers.

If you love pizza crusts as much as we do (don’t trust people who throws away the crust), you’ll definitely love the cheesy poppers.

The cheesy poppers are soft and pretty nice to bite into, like biting into small pillows of cheese.

We particularly love the hints of burnt cheese on each of the poppers, which gives it an authentic cheesy pizza taste.

However, our only gripe is that Pizza Hut should pack a little more cheese into each of the poppers.

If you’re expecting some cheese to burst in your mouth when you bite into the cheesy poppers, we regret to inform you that you’ll be sorely disappointed.

Thankfully, Pizza Hut will throw in some extra cheese dips with the pizza, so it more than makes up for the lack of cheese in the poppers.

Verdict

All in all, Pizza Hut’s Cheesy Poppers Pizza is definitely one of the most interesting pizzas we’ve ever had.

The amount of cheese smothered all over the pizza would definitely make cheese lovers happy, and the smokey BBQ sauce — coupled with the pepperoni slices and the meatballs (oh, them meatballs!) — had us thinking about it long after the pizza has been digested.

If you’re sick and tired of ordering your usual pizza, we do recommend giving Pizza Hut’s Cheesy Poppers Pizza a try.

Who knows, it might turn out to be your favourite pizza too.
