INNOVATHON Returns For Season Two, With Auditions Taking Place in June! Here’s How You Can Join
The science, technology, and innovation-based reality programme INNOVATHON is back for a second season.
According to Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli, the second season of INNOVATHON will focus on producing the future workforce and talent and advancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and research and development (R&D).
"We actually need more professional talent in STEM and R&D. At the same time, we know that we are faced with a global challenge, which is that young people are less interested in STEM, Science, R&D, etc.”
“Because of that, we hope that INNOVATHON will become another method that we can use to draw students' interest from schools to universities so that they will be more open to a variety of offers for a better career and life in the future,” he explained.
Rafizi said all this during the Soft Launching press conference for INNOVATHON’s second season.
What makes it special this time is that the initiative by the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) and Astro's partnership also involves collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education, all to popularise science and technology among students, starting at the school level.
The first season of INNOVATHON witnessed the innovation of a DNA sensor device to detect viruses and cancer named NACOTS, which was crowned champions.
Nationwide auditions to start
Audition sessions will be held nationwide starting in June, and they will include stops at several higher education institutions, including Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
The second season is expected to start airing on Astro RIA next November.
