The New Honda Civic Is Back, And Here's What's New With It
The country’s best-selling C-segment sedan is back, and it's giving its competitors a run for their money.
This year, Honda Malaysia revealed the facelifted Honda Civic with plenty of new kit; including active safety tech, since bookings were opened in September 2019.
Such was the Civic’s dominance that it took a 72 per cent market share in 2019 in its segment and accounts for over 48,000 units since its launch four years ago.
Once again, the variant line-up remains unchanged. There’s the flagship 1.5 TC-P with a mid-range 1.5 TC sandwiched between that and the entry-level trim sporting the 1.8-litre natural-aspirated mill.
Besides of the powerful existing 1.5L VTEC Turbocharged engine, here's what's new with the 2020 Honda Civic:

Redesigned exterior

Cosmetically, the Honda Civic maintains its aggresive looks.
The front end of the Civic expresses its sportiness at every angle, and leading the way is the redesigned ultra‑bright and long‑lasting LED lights and the mean front grille.
At the back, the Civic now features an enhanced aerodynamism, thanks to a sleek Trunk Spoiler, and coupled with a very distinct boomerang‑shaped tail lights, it will leave an impression wherever you go.
The new Civic now sports a new 16-inch sporty alloy wheels, and if you go for the1.5 TC-P variant, you'll get a new set of sporty black 18-inch wheels.

A more powerful performance

Under the hood, the new Civic is powered by a 1.5-litre VTEC turbocharged engine, which makes it the most powerful in its class as it is equivalent to a 2.4L engine performance.
The Civic also comes in a 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine, for those who prefers a naturally-aspirated engine.
Not just that, Honda's Earth Dreams Technology will ensure your next driving journey is not only exhilarating, but more fuel efficient.

New safety suite

Here’s where things pick up a little; the equipment count.
The real party trick will be on the full Honda SENSING suite of eight advanced driver-assistive technologies.
The Honda SENSING suite include:
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Road Departure Mitigation
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Low Speed Follow
  • Lane Keep Assist System
  • Auto High Beam
The Honda SENSING features were designed to help you be a better driver, as well as alert you to things you might miss while driving.
On top of that, Honda Malaysia has also incorporated the Honda LaneWatch camera for the left side of the vehicle to reduce blind spots by displaying cars that you are not able to see on the Civic’s screen, making it safer should you need to switch lanes.
All variants of the new Honda Civic are equipped with standard safety kit, which includes six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Agile Handle Assist (AHA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Auto Brake Hold (ABH), New Front Sensors, Rear Seat ISOFIX and 60:40 seats.

Additional bells and whistles

Some kit has been standardised across the range now. Remote engine start can be had with all, as does the eight-way powered driver’s seat.
It is also equipped with the Walk Away Auto Lock feature. Your Civic will now automatically locked its doors if you walk two metres away from the car or after 30 seconds.
Entertainment includes the 7.0-inch display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It is also compatible with Waze map function.
On top of that, the new Honda Civic boasts an ultra-spacious interior, thanks to Honda's 'Man Maximum Machine Minimum' philosophy.
You get generous headroom and legroom with the new Civic, so you and your passengers can stretch all the way out during a long car ride.
And the space we're talking about also covers the boot as well, as you get a 519l boot space for you to load all your essentials - with room to spare.
