What was supposed to be a normal day for an e-hailing driver turned into a terrifying experience after she was allegedly assaulted by four teenagers who refused to pay their fare.

According to District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar, the incident took place earlier this month on 4 May at 12:30 AM. The victim, a 41-year-old woman, had accepted a ride request via an e-hailing application to pick up four passengers in Bukit Rambai and send them to Pekan Kuala Sungai Baru.

The suspects were reportedly two 14-year-old girls and two teenage boys aged 15 and 17. One of them is still a student.

The victim suffered injuries to her nose, neck, and both hands

Ahmad Abu Bakar said that upon arriving near a forested area in Kuala Sungai Baru, one of the suspects asked the victim to stop the vehicle, claiming they were waiting for someone to transfer money into their account online.

The victim then became suspicious and started recording the situation using her mobile phone before the suspects re-entered the car.

The situation escalated when three of the suspects suddenly turned aggressive. They allegedly struck the victim with a blunt object and strangled her using a cloth from behind the driver’s seat.

It is understood that one of the suspects, a 15-year-old boy, did not re-enter the car and fled the scene during the alleged assault.

The victim was warned not to resist or call for help, but she managed to escape by driving away from the location before lodging a police report.

While receiving treatment at the hospital, the victim was found to have sustained injuries to her nose, neck, and both hands.

“All four suspects have been arrested and remanded, pending further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor,” Ahmad Abu Bakar said.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. Upon conviction, the offender may face a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any two of these punishments.
