Here’s How You Can Replace Your Old & Damaged MyKad with a Phone Call

Renewing your passport, renewing your road tax, and your driving licence –– it seems like there are so many documentations to take care of, right? Did you know that you can also apply for a replacement for your MyKad with just a phone call? You only need to head to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) to pick up your completed identification card (I.C.) and save a lot of time in the process!

Regulation 13 of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007) states that any person whose identity card is damaged or destroyed shall immediately apply for a replacement identity card. So don’t delay in carrying this step out!

Which replacement services are available?

• Damaged card/Chip replacement: Replacement requests can be made if the card is physically damaged or the chip is unreadable throughout transactions
• Normal replacement: Request for normal replacement can be made to upgrade your MyKad chip from 32K/64K to 80K. This chip upgrade is to support new applications available. (e.g. the new application developed for government agencies such as FAMA, DOSH, JPA, DOF).

Via Phone Call

This applies to Malaysians who are applying to replace their old or damaged MyKad and do not need to change their photograph or particulars.

Operation hours:

Mondays to Fridays from 8 am to 4.30 pm

Break times:

Mondays to Thursdays from 1 pm to 2 pm

Friday from 12.45 pm to 2.15 pm

Things to take note of:

• The registration and collection must be done by the owners themselves and not by any other party. For those under 18, they have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the application process.
• Changes to your name, photo, address, and religion are not allowed.
• An RM10 registration fee applies and must be paid upon collection at any Pejabat Cetakan Teragih (DPP)

MyKad collection time

The time for the process varies according to your choice of collection centres (and of course, if your application is successful):

• After 30 minutes at JPN WP Putrajaya Headquarters, State Headquarters and all UTC Branches
• After 5 working days at the Peninsular Malaysia NRD branch
• After 7 working days at NRD Sabah and Sarawak branches

What Happens if You’ve Lost Your MyKad

• You have to submit a police report either for the loss of identity card due to crime (for the first and subsequent loss) or due to negligence (compulsory for second and subsequent missed cases). The police report should clearly state the details of the incident and mention the lost identity card details.
• You won’t be able to apply online or via phone call as the applicant must be present at any of the nearest NRD offices for the replacement application of the lost identity card.
• If you have lost your old MyKad, you will be charged. The amount depends on how many times you’ve lost your MyKad. You can check the amount below. Note that it starts from RM110, so take good care of your MyKad, guys!

Checking the Status of Your Application

If you want to check on the status of your application, you can just:

• Head to their website and insert your I.C. number.
• Or check via SMS. Follow the steps below. Do note that a 15-cent charge applies for sending the message and 20 cents for receiving the SMS.
