Automobili Lamborghini, the maker of iconic, ear-bleeding and mind-busting super vehicles, are now making super surgical masks and protective plexiglass shields. These medical equipment are bound for Sant' Orsola-Malpighi Hospital. The 'why' is obvious; Italy is not in a good place right now.

The surgical masks are made by the artisans in the saddlery that would have produced the interiors and customisation in regular times. They will be creating 1,000 masks a day, no small task, especially when it is all made by hand.

As for the protective plexiglass shields, it will be made using 3D printers in the carbon fibre production plant and the Research and Development department. 200 of these medical shields will be produced daily.

The Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences of the University of Bologna will test the medical equipment before releasing it to the hospital. The Emilia-Romagna Region has approved and supports the project.

To highlight the carmaker's support, Lamborghini will light up its historic headquarter buildings in Sant'Agata Bolognese with the colours of the Italian flag.
