BEHIND THE WHEEL
You Can Buy The Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 But You Can’t Park It At Home
Lamborghini has always had this air of a boulevard cruiser for players rather than full-on track weapon. However, shocking the sidewalk might not be giving the same kick as it once did. So, cars like the Huracan Performante and Aventador SVJ were made to put down serious rubber on the track and gain serious street-cred by holding records on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The Huracan GT3, on the other hand, has been a dominant force on the race track. And now, Lamborghini has just launched their latest and quite frankly, scariest creation yet, the Essenza SCV12, a track-only special meant to bid farewell to a bygone era.
Joining the ranks of the hyper-performance club, where the Ferrari FXX-K, Aston Martin Vulcan and the McLaren Senna GTR are members, the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 is the latest iteration of a long line of track-focused machines to bear the symbol of the bull. The SCV12 however, comes with an air of poignant glee surrounding in the automotive world.
With Lamborghini going hybrid with its V12 engines, as seen with the Sian, the SCV12 will most likely be the naturally aspirated V12's final shout. This latest iteration of the V12 is based on the engine in the Aventador SVJ. However, unlike the Aventador SVJ which 'only' makes 759hp, the SCV12 pumps out a mind-boggling 830hp, making it the most powerful V12 engine Lamborghini has ever made.

Lamborghini's Squadra Corse's GT motorsport division applies several racing solutions to specific aspects of the SCV12. As an example, the Squadra Corse engineers created 'aerodynamic supercharging' at high speed that allows the V12 to generate 830hp. The double air intake on the bonnet and roof-mounted ram-air scoop direct fast flowing air. It increases the air pressure within the intake manifolds, essentially forcing air into the intakes much like a supercharger would.
Despite being based on the all-wheel drive Aventador SVJ, the SCV12 sends all its rampaging 830hp to the rear-wheels only, much like a real track racer. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a new X-trac sequential six-speed gearbox that doubles as a structural element within the chassis to ensure compactness and greater torsional stiffness.

The gearbox also serves as a mounting point for the rear pushrod suspension setup, which holds on to magnesium wheels that come standard with slick Pirelli rubbers and race-developed Brembo brakes. Together with a lightweight new-generation carbon fibre monocoque chassis and the monstrous engine, the SCV12 has an incredible power-to-weight ratio of 1.66 kg/hp, better than a Pagani Zonda!
No track-focused car would be complete without a comprehensive aerodynamics package, and the SCV12 is no different. The fronts feature a large front splitter with two lateral elements, while the sides of the SCV12 are flanked by two massive air intakes that optimise airflow to the engine while keeping the race-derived gearbox cool at all times. The rear of the SCV12 tapers to a point, resembling the profile of a McLaren Speedtail.

This is intentionally done to ensure smooth airflow coming off the car while allowing the large rear diffuser to maximise downforce generation. Helping the diffuser along is that almighty double-profile rear wing that is manually adjustable to suit all manner of track layouts and driving styles. Much like the aero-mad Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, all these individual elements work together harmoniously on the SCV12 to generate over 1,200kg of downforce at 250kph, putting fear into any GT3 racecar.

As jaw-dropping as the exterior is, the interior is just as stunning to be in for the lucky 40 people to experience it. Featuring an F1-style steering wheel that houses all manner of buttons and a screen, and a bare-bones but well thought out design, the interior of the SCV12 is unmistakably Lamborghini.
The stylised "Y" found throughout Lamborghini's current range of vehicles is ever-present in the SCV12, so much so that even the central load-bearing spur is designed much like the asymmetrical "Y" shape. With custom made FIA homologated OMP carbon seats holding drivers in place, the cockpit of the SCV12 wraps around the driver, putting the driver in the centre of the action.

As part of the Essenza SCV12 ownership, you don't just get the car, you get yourself an entire lifestyle. SCV12 owners will be a part of an exclusive club that grants them access programs that allow them to drive their hypercar on some of the most prestigious circuits in the world. The program includes storage service in a new hangar built in Sant'Agata Bolognese for the Essenza SCV12 club, with each car getting a personalised garage.
Complete with a 24-hour webcam monitoring for your prized possession, the program also includes your very own personal training regime to keep you in shape for driving the wheels off the SCV12. Special tutoring by Emanuele Pirro, five-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, guarantees that drivers will be well-taken care of on and off the track with their very exclusive investment.

The Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 is a testament to the power of following your roots. Descended from a long line of exclusive Lamborghinis, such as the Miura Jota and the Diablo GTR, the Essenza SCV12 is the pinnacle of Lamborghini's heritage over the past 57 years. Sadly, the SCV12 is the last of its kind. It is undeniably stunning with performance to match, and truly a worthy masterpiece to wave the Lamborghini naturallt-aspirated V12 flag, one last time.
