It appears that Malaysian cinemas will be reopened in July, according to The Star.

A handful of highly-anticipated films that were originally scheduled for an earlier release before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic will also be released in July, namely ‘Mulan’ (23 July) and ‘The Purge 5’ (9 July).

Other titles have, unfortunately, been pushed back to either later this year or in 2021.

‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’, ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ and ‘Fast Furious 9’ are among the films that have been postponed to next year.

Here are the films scheduled to release at the second half of 2020:

• ‘Mulan’, July 23
• ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, August 13
• ‘A Quiet Place 2’, Sept 3
• ‘The King’s Man’, Sept 17
• ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’, Sept 10
• ‘Death On The Nile’, Oct 8
• ‘G.I. Joe Snake Eyes’, Oct 22
• ‘Black Widow’, Nov 5
• ‘Godzilla Vs Kong’, Nov 19
• ‘Soul’, Nov 19
• ‘No Time To Die’, Nov 26
• ‘Free Guy’, Dec 10
• ‘Dune’, Dec 17
• ‘Top Gun Maverick’, Dec 24

However, in the event that local cinemas aren’t able to operate in July, film distributors say they will adapt accordingly.

In April, the Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors (MAFE) says that the closure of cinemas will be continued even if the Movement Control Order (MCO) is lifted, as there are no new movie releases both locally and internationally between April to June.
