In case you were living under a rock last year, you’ll remember the Good Vibes Festival fiasco caused by The 1975’s frontman Matty Healy which caused it to be cancelled immediately. However, the renowned festival is set to make a comeback this year, to the surprise of many.

To recap, The 1975’s Matty Healy slammed our country’s LGBTQ laws while onstage, kissed his male bassist on the lips, and basically insulted our government. This led to the cancellation of the three-day festival with the organisers pleading for concertgoers to donate their refunds as it had affected numerous parties including food vendors, toilet suppliers, and working crew. Some concertgoers who had submitted refund requests said that their request had failed.

2023 was coincidentally the festival’s 10th anniversary, and it has been something many music fans look forward to each year. After it was abruptly cancelled, many fans expected that to be its last year. However, GVF has announced they will return on 20 & 21 July 2024 at the GHPO Bus Parking, Resorts World Awana in Genting Highlands. Their Instagram caption read, “lineup announcement coming soon.” Last year, it was held at the Sepang International Circuit. It will also be running for 2 days this year instead of the usual 3.

Fans seemed divided about the return of the festival, with some still asking for refunds a year later. Some felt sceptical about GVF doing well, while others looked forward to seeing their favourite artists. There also seemed to be numerous The Strokes fans who wanted to see the band perform live in the flesh.

Many also poked fun at them over The 1975 incident.
