‘Till Death: Azalea’s Wrath’, also known as ‘Dendam Azalea’, will be released exclusively on Netflix on 9 August and made available to audiences around the world.

The new Malaysian horror is written, directed and produced by local filmmaker Sein Qudsi, some of you may know him as Sein from our homegrown band Ruffedge.

This film revolves around a married couple who loses their baby after facing complications during childbirth. They decide to move into a beautiful new house to start fresh.

However, little did they know that the house carries a dark secret and their journey of hardships have only just begun.

After ‘Bangunan’ in 2015, this would be Sein’s second horror film.

“I never thought that I would venture into another horror film after I did ‘Bangunan’ in 2015. I consider myself more of an action, drama and thriller film lover,” Sein shared.

So to prepare you for the launch of ‘Till Death: Azalea’s Wrath’ tomorrow, here are some reasons why you should watch this movie.

Unique story

Besides falling under the horror genre, what sets ‘Till Death: Azalea’s Wrath’ apart from other films under this umbrella is that it has a strong and relatable story at its heart.

The main theme of the story is family and support after suffering from tremendous loss.

“Losing a child is a great loss and affects a family in many ways, especially the mother. We explore these themes in the film, with elements of suspense, horror and vengeance,” the director said.

“A lot of horror films in Malaysia tend to focus on the horror and then the story comes second. That’s not wrong. I just wanted to do it the other way around, focusing on the story and then the horror comes in.”

Other than experiencing a few jump scares throughout the movie, you may be left with tears.

Seasoned cast

‘Till Death: Azalea’s Wrath’ stars Khir Rahman, Vanidah Imran, Nam Ron, Kodi Rasheed, Zain Hamid, and Zulaika Zahary.

These names are no strangers to the local industry, so with such a notable line-up, quality acting is guaranteed.

When speaking about working with Sein, the lead actor Khir, who plays Azman, said that it was easy for him to consider his offer. Not to mention, this is not the first time the star has worked with the director.

Vanidah, as Suraya, opened up about her personal experience to portray her role as a mother who loses her child.

“I nearly went through post-natal depression after giving birth to my first child,” the mother-of-two shared.

Following her own encounter, she channeled all the emotions felt during that period into her latest role on-screen.

Modest production

The fact that Sein himself wrote, directed and produced the entire film, yet was still able to recruit such a star-studded cast suggests that he worked with a very modest production budget.

During an interview session with a few Malaysian journalists recently, the director did not reveal the exact amount spent for ‘Till Death: Azalea’s Wrath’, but he did hint that we would be very shocked if we found out.

It is also crucial to note that Sein and his team had already completed the film before approaching Netflix Malaysia as a potential distributor.

The fact that streaming giant gave ‘Till Death: Azalea’s Wrath’ the green light speaks volumes.

“Ever since Netflix appeared on my radar I have started thinking on how do I get my film to be on this service. I’m grateful that it’s happening now. To know that audiences in 190 countries will have the chance to watch this film is amazing,” Sein shared.
