We’ve been seeing the same recurring movie trends as of late – horror, gangster, or ‘suamiku’/’biniku’ *insert* random job occupation. But what about sports? A genre or theme that’s rarely told in local movies. Well, that’s about to change soon.
Following director Tunku Mona Riza’s triumphant win as the Most Promising Director at the recent Malaysian Film Festival (FFM29), via her film Redha or Beautiful Pain, she has announced that she will be working on a new film about Malaysian Paralympian, Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of nine.
According to Cinema Online, Tunku Mona is already working on the script and they are in the midst of talking to several local investors, although no contract has been signed so far.
"InsyaAllah, if everything goes well, my second film would be about Ridzuan Puzi, our Paralympian who won gold medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio,” Tunku Mona Riza told Cinema Online.
The 50-year-old director has approached the Paralympian and his family regarding her plans. The movie will give viewers an insight to to the life of the KL 2017 Para Asean Games gold medalist, from a kid all the way to a Paralympic gold medalist and world-record holder.
“I've already met Ridzuan and his family, and they are aware of my intentions to make this film. If all goes well, the filming will start early next year.”
No word yet on whether Ridzuan Puzi himself will appear in his own biopic, or if someone else will portray him, so we guess that’s something we’ll just have to wait and see.
