We bet you can still recall the haunting tunes of Squid Game which premiered back in 2021, one of Netflix's most-watched series around the world garnering over 1.65 billion in its first 28 days, taking the no.1 spot across 94 countries. Netflix has now shared its first stills from the second season, which will be released sometime in 2024 (rumoured to be later this year). Fans will be delighted to know that visionary director Hwang Dong-hyuk will be at the helm again.

First Stills

We see Sung Ki Hoon (Lee Jung Jae) after winning the deadly game.

We’re also given a glimpse at the Front Man, the right-hand man of the now-deceased creator of the games (Lee Byung Hun) who has his mask off now and oozes charisma.

Gong Yoo also makes a special return appearance as the mysterious Salesman who recruited Sung Ki Hoon back in Season 1.

As revealed last year, the final cast will feature a slew of new faces (obviously as most of the characters in season 1 were already dead). This includes Lee Jin Wook, T.O.P, and Park Gyu Young.

First Look Trailer

In a short 17-second video, Netflix teased the hotly anticipated second season with protagonist Sung Ki Hoon rocking crimson hair and suit. "You'll regret your decision," a voice tells Ki Hoon after he refuses to board a plane to go meet his daughter in the U.S., determined to seek justice for his fellow players. "I will find you, no matter what it takes," he replies before ending the call and leaving the airport.

What to know about season 2?

The promotional materials so far hint that the new season will not focus on a new game, but rather on Ki Hoon’s quest to bring down the deadly operation.

It also appears that there will not be a time jump in this series, but that things will pick up where the finale left off. As the Salesman’s (Gong Yoo) character is one of the few images teased, it is likely that he will have a more significant role in this second season. If you remember, back in season 1, he only had two scenes, appearing in the first and final episodes.

During the ending, Ki Hoon also saw the Salesman approaching someone at the airport and realised that the lethal games would continue even after the death of Oh Il Nam, the true mastermind of the games.
