Hosted by Katy Perry, the 36th annual MTV Video Music Awards just wrapped up in Los Angeles a few hours ago and some standout moments have already become the talk of town.

Or at least on social media.

If we could sum up the 2017 VMAs with just two things, they would be the performances (some memorable, some uncomfortable to watch) and powerful speeches.

So to save you the time and energy, here are some of the things you need to catch up on from this year’s VMAs:

Taylor Swift debuted her new dark side without showing up

Taylor Swift practically became the biggest star of the night even though she didn’t even attend the award (is it because Katy Perry hosted?), mainly because she premiered the highly-anticipated music video of her latest single, ‘Look What You Made Me Do’.

If you haven’t seen the new side of Tay Tay, we talked more about it here.

Despacito didn’t win ‘Song of the Summer’

Yup. Despite becoming the most-viewed video in the history of YouTube, Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘XO Tour Llif3’ beat the overplayed smash hit, ‘Despacito’ and won the award for ‘Best Song of the Summer’.

Maybe radios all over should take this as a cue to delete ‘Despacito’ from their playlist play more newer songs!

Fifth Harmony threw shade at an ex-member

The opening of their ‘Down’ performance had a surprising moment when the five members who appeared on stage quickly became four, after the fifth member literally got thrown off stage.

We see what you did there, girls.
Many fans took this as a diss to their former member, Camila Cabello who left the group last year to pursue her solo career.

P!nk’s moving acceptance speech

P!nk won the coveted Video Vanguard award after delivering a stellar medley performance of her past hits.

During her acceptance speech, she shared a touching story about her daughter and delivered a powerful message about loving yourself.

Jared Leto’s tribute to Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell

The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman paid a special tribute to the fallen rock stars. The band had toured with Linkin Park in 2014, and Leto met Cornell while performing at music festivals in the early 2000s.

Cornell and Bennington lost their lives to suicide earlier this year, both of whom were close friends.

Logic featured suicide survivors in his performance

Logic performed his touching song about suicide awareness, ‘1-800-273-8255’ alongside Alessia Cara and Best New Artist winner Khalid.

Sending out a powerful message on the sensitive yet undeniable issue of suicide, he was also accompanied by dozens of suicide-attempt survivors on stage, each of them wearing matching T-shirts stating “You are not alone”.

Last but not least, some of the best performances of the night
