From our intricately designed traditional wau bulan by local craftsmen to working on Disney animated movies, Malaysians have proven time and time again that we are pretty creative folk.

This also includes some pretty incredible local graphic designers that you should be following on Instagram. Don’t just click ‘follow’ to feast your eyes on their art, you can actually take their merch home for yourself too.

Here are some Malaysian graphic designers worth checking out:

Humana

Vanissa Foo is the graphic designer and illustrator behind the quirky art of ‘Humana’s world’. Her illustrations are striking and somewhat bizarre to say the least. She utilises bright colours like pinks and yellows with motifs of cats, flowers and even anthropomorphic objects like lamps.

We especially love the relatable lines included in her artworks such as this one: ‘Today was an unproductive day. Should I take a nap?’. Her online store includes a range of merch such as postcards, pins and A6 prints that you can display at your desk to brighten up your workspace.

Second Floor Neko

Cat lovers will absolutely dig this artist Nikki’s digital drawings of ‘meow meows’ as she calls them. Cats in a box, cats doing yoga, cats in Baju Melayu. You name it, she has probably already drawn it.

If you find yourself hoarding pretty stationery for no reason at all like us, you will want to pick up some washi tape, sticker sheets, memo pads and even raya packets during festive seasons at her store, which has even expanded online to Singapore and the Philippines.

Attention Steeker

As their name suggests, this shop specialises in stickers that you will want to plaster your laptop with. Based in Kuala Lumpur, the illustrator Zee also sell phone grips like ‘Si Gadis Jelita’.

Her stickers include lines like ‘www.adulthoodsucks.com’ (ugh, tell us about it) and while others have a localised spin on it like ‘Milo Girl’. ‘Mak Cik Bawang Club’? We’re pretty sure that’s us. She even makes stickers for K-pop groups like aespa and Stray Kids. No need to think twice, just click ‘add to cart’ already!
