Go On an Adventure of Light & Colour with teamLab’s Free Mesmerising Exhibition

Art connoisseurs or casual fans of art would have been starved during the creative drought that began with the lockdowns in March 2020. Happily, various exhibitions and festivals have started popping up in the city again and this time it will be one created by teamLab, who have held scores of exhibitions all over the world.

Even if you aren’t familiar with their name, chances are, you’ve seen one of their multicoloured installations such as ‘Waterfall Deep in the Mountains’ on social media before. This 4 August – 30 November 2022, head over to the Central Rooftop Garden on Level 4 at LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre for the chance to see one of their hypnotic creations yourself.

While they have previously worked with Aquaria KLCC to create the MoonLab Sketch Aquarium’s interactive children’s game, this will be their first ever major outdoor exhibition in Malaysia. Titled ‘Resonating Microcosms – Liquified Color, Sunrise and Sunset’, it is a digital artwork comprised of bulbous installations that appear alien-like and emit light and sounds. The exhibition is open from 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. daily and best of all, entry is free of charge.

Make sure you snap a photo with one of the 57 awe-inspiring ovoids which are interactive as visitors can touch them and watch them move. The installation also makes use of light, taking on a unique appearance during sunset and changing again at night with mysterious ‘newly-defined liquified light colours’ that react even when they are hit by the rain.

It quite literally takes a village to create their installations: teamLab is international art collective comprised of an interdisciplinary group of specialists such as artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians and architects who are aiming “to explore the relationship between the self and the world and new perceptions through art”.

They have drawn crowds at numerous exhibitions at venues worldwide, including New York, London, Paris, and more. Their works are in the permanent collection of noteworthy spots like the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney.
